TechAUmNu 3 months ago (edited 3 months ago) Why are map downloads so insanely slow now? Only downloading at about 2-3Mbps. For a 150MB map that is an eternity and means a new map vote usually gets called. +3 / -0

TechAUmNu 3 months ago (edited 3 months ago) Tracert really won't show why the download is slow, but here you go anyway... Edit: After a lot of messing around I found the problem, I had tor for another app running which was apparently killing my download speed... which makes no sense as zk traffic is not routed down that... and it was only using 2mbps / 30mbps bandwidth. After turning off tor I now get the full bandwidth for downloads. Also tested it on my server and get good speed. +0 / -0
chaplol 3 months ago I looked into this a long while back and I think I found it to be something related to DNS of all things. Never spent the time to validate that theory so I'm probably just blowing smoke here, but IIRC there's some bug with LUA not being able to consistently maintain a socket with the download server while a DNS request goes through. So it has to re-establish the connection many times during the download process, which prevents the download from gaining speed, because TCP weirdness. +0 / -0
LobHunter 3 months ago That sounds about right. If true, this can be helped by putting a static entry into your hosts file: 149.56.22.68 zero-k.info this would make all DNS queries there take zero time. Though it does not seem to improve things in my case. PS: I have a couple of servers available, could host a mirror for some maps if that would be useful. +1 / -0
