And send me the replays! I'm going to try game replay commentary now that I have everything I want to start. I'm just doing 1v1 for now, but I will probably expand to small team later also. So good 1v1 games, and please send me the direct link to the download and not the download page link, so I don't get the spoilers on who won and how long the game took. And ideally don't only send me games where you win, as it would basically be spoiled anyway. :D Also, it would be much preferred to have replays on some of the nicer newer maps. (I love playing on red comet as much as anyone but it is a pretty ugly map) The game can look pretty nice and I want to show that off. Thanks!

Are you doing these live, uploading them after recording onto YouTube, or both? Where would we find all the places these videos are being shown? Do you have a good list of pretty maps. I realize this is a bit of a stupid question, but I've heard some maps, like Hide and Seek (how does one set up map links in forum?), have their prettiness debated.

I have some PW duels scheduled against burp this weekend. Those might be fun, but most pw maps are huge. I will also play anybody who obliges whenever i'm in lobby and not via irc relay :P

That's an awesome idea, luckywaldo! I like to watch replays of good players, but I often don't really know what I'm looking at. Having games commentated makes the games so much more understandable. Props to you!

Here are some replays of games I thought amusing on nice maps. Notice that they are more mid-high level games then real high level games. Edit: Removed Nubgame Me verus Knorke on Barren. Classic Cloakbot versus Shieldbot match. Lots of Glaive/Bandit interaction early game. http://zero-k.info/replays/20121230_131332_Barren_91.sdfme versus Anarchid on Barren again. It has Jumpfac, Sumos, zombies and showcases again the importance of reclaim: http://zero-k.info/replays/20121224_203414_Barren_91.sdfThis is a bit of a silly game, not sure if you find it interesting, it's me versus Fred but somehow we both only use Glaive/Ticks. Very fast gameplay perhaps a nice replay if you want to tell something about micro. It's on Wanderlust http://zero-k.info/replays/20121228_200858_wanderlust_V01_91.sdf

+1 for not spoiling results :D I'm going to follow suit: This is another Ravaged game, me vs kmar. Jumpies versus shields, later joined by spiders, planes, and gunships. No zombies here, but a lot of reclaiming still, and 4 sumos, some crabes, and all those little infiltrators everywhere.

Awesome, thanks guys, definitely some good stuff to get me started here. Shadowfury333I'll be doing uploads to youtube. I actually hadn't considered hosting replays live but that is a possibility, especially for dual commentaries and such. There is also livestream to consider. For the moment though, I will just be doing youtube. About nice maps, its really up to anyone's judgement. I'll make a list of some example maps I think it would be nice to see replays on also.

You should get back into the replay Swing @[CoW]FlorisXIV. I believe commented game can be a huuuge asset to the game. And I enjoy watching those things.

1) get sprang to host a tourney 2) get luckywaldo7, Shadowfury333, @[CoW]FlorisXIV to commentate in real time 3) get everybody else in top 50 to participate 4) ??? 5) humongous PROFIT! I'd totally love to watch some of my replays being commented, i'm vain like that. The one floris did with borked sound, i watched it like 5 times, giggling at his "ah shit" each time. :P

I don't consider myself competent enough to commentate ZK games yet (I'm only ~1600 elo), and I can't tell you off-hand why to use or how to deal with any given factory, let alone deep unit strategic analysis. Granted, I may be thinking too much about how I commentate Achron games, which necessarily involves a great deal of explanation, but said explanation is still pretty key for useful commentary.

I'm not going to commentate 4v4 any time soon, and when I do I will be interested in the larger-scale view; i.e., how the team coordinates its efforts, splits economy and front line, and how inter-player unit compositions synergize. I won't really care about unit micro all that much. quote: i would also like to make some commentaries, maybe we can make them dual? in this case we must search for a way to record it the same time, and whats about split-screen? |
That sounds really cool! I would recommend getting started with a solo commentary first, as quickly I found out there is a lot to learn, even about ourselves. :S More commentaries is better for everyone though!
So, thanks for all the submissions so far! I did a number of commentaries, while wrestling with screen recording working properly, learning minor video editing, and that this conversion youtube business apparently takes forever. The first few weeks of commentary should be also sufficiently awful as I get used to conveying my thoughts through a microphone coherently, but a lot of things will improve as I get better at this. I'll let you all know when I have something to show.
