In games people who play heavy tanks often use reapers supported by welders often in a 1:1 ratio.

I wonder what it would be like to have a unit that acts as a moveable smaller range nano turret - we have builders/constructers but they dont auto repair units while moving etc.

It would be important to make any proposed unit less cost efficient than traditional builders. The advantage would be in the reduced intense micro often required to position and repair units (i.e. metal for metal a player that uses welders would be at an advantage).

Example for heavy vehicles
300m cost with two 'build rays' that can repair/assist 2 seperate units or the same one. Each ray having a build rate of 4m/s with a range 1/3 of a nano (Effectively like a welder with a slightly longer build range but lacking the ability to build or a weapon).

Settings to focus repairs on most badly damaged units in range up to a Priority set point which can change 30% 70% 100%. i.e. if set at 70% it would repair everything in range to 70% before repairing anything higher.

The above is a suggestion, maybe it should have stronger repair ability but cost more etc.

How about repair drones that are linked to a "carrier" similar to the existing Companion Drone for commanders, or the version for Reefs. They would float around and repair nearby units. Mason, or a new unit could have those.

A patrol order will automatically build/repair/reclaim anything in range. An area repair order will automatically repair everything in the area until there is nothing to heal. On repeat it will keep doing this indefinitely. A guard order will follow and repair a unit whenever it is damaged.

Repair costs energy and buildpower, and it takes a small amount of micro, there are lots of options.

P.S. I make reaper/welder in a 1:3 ratio because welders are boss.

Agree with AUrankAdminSaktoth, but like Skasi idea too.

GBrankLiquid_Mind i think there a widget to make all builder auto repair, just do not remember its name...

I kinda suggested allowing Mason to work-on-the-move about a year ago i think. Repeatedly, in fact.

Wasn't done because i'm a lazy bastard and it's not that easy.

Widget name is "Auto Repair" in - Units - "tab" last "tab" of the widget list.

Not exactly true.

It will also build, not only repair.
You can let an area command order stay alive forever with ALT+ draw_AreaCommand


And you can not make caretakers focus on repair landed planes THEN all other stuff.
There isn't any widget for task priorities.

Did try this and it did not make a area atk command it only did make a line.

Use Dynamic Avoidance System widget too, so it may work avoiding enemy, but not sure, never really use both in a real game.

First, you want hold position on roach, secondly you want the "hold fire for cloaked units" widget to not affect bombs.

If you have a roach/tick on holdpos,fireatwill is there still a problem?
-> If yes, figure out if it is an engine bug that bombs walk to targets beyond their range and then probably post it in mantis.

I want a hold-pos/maneuver mixing command (hold-pos + skirm + avoidance for units with no manual order)

How about a demi-commander unit?
Or a repair strider? The strider equivalent of Athena. Maybe give it a gravity gun. Gravity gun either pushes swarmers away from your heavy vehicles, or pulls them in for easier killing. It could be a formidable unit. Great for clearing a crowded battlefield.

Do gravity guns work underwater? I can imagine a swarm of these striders launching a battleship out of the water...

Repair strider hmm.. Jugglenaut could be more unique if it had some nice self-repair. Maybe even while it's taking damage.

It could act like a "Black Hole" that eat the HP of the units near it.

I like that idea. It would make the Jugglenaut really be an anti-spam strider, where it could toggle an outlaw-like ability that eats takes either a fixed amount of HP (between 100 and 1000) per hit, or takes away less but has multi-hit.

or give it some (4? or 8?) repair beams additionally to its lasers. this way it would foun itself in a support role. the moving fortress of nanospray.

Jug simple was NO role, if you want a Strider Riot you use Dante...

Edit: I accidentally posted a half-finished post.

Jug is not very useful because it fills a role that is already filled by multiple other striders. It is antiswarm, but Dante and any strider with an area damage weapon (or Det's guass) does this already. It has a huge HP pool, but it's slow enough and does low enough damage that Ultis are perferred for killing porc or other heavy units. It has a dgun that is only useful in a few specific circumstances. Jug needs some large changes, to differentiate it from the other striders.

There's no raider strider because it wouldn't make sense, raiders are supposed to be cheap and easy to kill by AoE (as that's how most riots work) and a straider would be the opposite.
