Hey guys,

Seems my old notebook (which I used to play BA on), doesn't at all like the demands of Zero-K. Even at the lowest quality setting, the shields absolutely kill the framerate. What are the recommended / required system parameters for Zero-K?

What are your system specifications (graphics, cpu, ram, ...)?

Intel T2400 @ 1.83 GHz
1.5 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

It's an IBM T60, like I said its old but it used to run BA without too much trouble. And even if it turns out this is clearly not enough, the question still stands. I gotta buy something new anyway. What do the required/recommended systems look like?

see this thread: http://www.zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/623

in short, engine pathing is bugged, next release will be much better.

I'm not so sure about shields, but i know that with enough units my computer gets bogged down and i have dual 2.4ghz, 4gig ram, 8800gtx

Pathing is a big issue, but outside of that system requirements reallt are vague.

The mains things although I know on are the need of:
1)Nvidia Video Card(ATI had issues with the game engine)
2)At least 1-2 GB memory(I think it runs on 300-500MB of RAM most times. Least when Ive run it)

a good CPU is also good, although at the current moment, it can't use it to its full potentiential as there is no working Multithreaded version of the game at the moment(although if someone can point me in the direction of a program that threads such before hand, Im all ears)

I have a i5 760 procesor and a ati radeon hd 6770 and it runs the game smooth no matter how many units or shields there are. But then again the i5 760 is really fast :)

apparently next engine version has multithreading working for zk as well as pathing bugfix, so it should be much much better.

Anyway, cpu is generally the biggest bottleneck to spring. Even in the older engine versions a fast cpu meant a lot more than ram or video cards.

Apparently under no circumstances should you advise anyone to use multithread engine.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll wait for the next version and try and run it again on my notebook. And I'll buy me a nice new PC with a faster CPU, though this could take a few months.

Still I think it may be a good idea to put some paragraph on system requirements somewhere on the site. It is after all something important to consider before actually downloading the game.

BTW, totally off-topic. I notice I have a totally awesome napalm missile avatar, while players far more pro than me have a chicken or a metal extractor. Is this just picked totally random from all the icons, or how does this work?

Semi-randomly, image is based on a name hash.

Also the metal extractor is the most powerful unit in the game. I barely see a game won without them. It's so powerful that we had to limit how many could be placed on a map :D.

Willk, Nvidia cards are definitely not needed. On my new Nvidia it's running just as smooth (or slow) as on my old ATI.

Alrighty then. I guess in my case it's my legacy drivers, and always being told of conflicts with the drivers.

hello um when i play zero-k it lags alot so what do i do its all ready on lowest graphics

I would recommend using Zero-K lobby for best results (assuming* you are not already). This way you automatically get the most optimized configs (there is a minimal settings option), and engine 91.

This will also give you easy access to missions and all other kinds of ZK goodies.

(*When first wrote this my brain was confused with the opening post where he talked about playing BA also)

Hi USrankNatozerg there's 1 more thing you can try.
While ingame: go to Settings (wrench icon)-> Graphic, then press "Toggle Lups" to disable it.

This turn-off some visual effect like glow on teleporter and such.
