Game Crash

Hello and greetings.
I'm a new player. I recently downloaded this game after looking around the net for a good RTS to play. Zero-K seemed promising.
So, everything went smoothly, download, installation, lobby, downloading of the map.

So being a new player, I picked tutorial 1. Saw the cutscene. Then, as the map was zooming out, the whole game suddenly hanged.

I do not know why this is happening and need some help.

It could be related to the recent campaign work. Try the 2v1 mission to see if this is the case (that missions lacks scripting). Also it would be useful if you could go to Settings and Open Game Diagnostic Log after a crash occurs. Put the text there on a site like http://pastebin.com/ and post the link here for us to see.

I'll try the 2v1 mission and will post what happens here.

I've just recently tried the 2v1 map mission like you asked GoogleFrog.

Download was sucessful.
Then I could see the loading screen..
Then when the game was ready and everything was finalized..
The map zoomed out a little and suddenly the game quit/crashed.

I was running the game on minimal graphics mode and even safe mode.
I wanted to test the game first before I started playing.
The specs of my laptop is not that good but I thought should be good enough to play.

Really apologize. New at this game and no idea what is going on mostly.

I think you have a hardware problem. The system requirements here say you need a graphics card: http://springrts.com/wiki/About

I think you should be fine with that hardware.

When I used intel graphics drivers were usually the source of a problem. Try updating to the newest version if you haven't already.

Intel 965/963 doesn't have new driver last time I check. :(

Last few driver was when they added support for "GSLS", then after IntelHD came they abandon update for Intel 965/963.

The "GSLS" is broken in latest driver, it crash in Spring/ZK.
To fix this, use driver that do not have "GSLS" (OLD original driver). This driver will write "GSLS: Null" (or something that meant "not available) in your infolog.txt. This driver will run Spring/ZK but in commercial game like Half-Life 2 it might run super slower.

The alternative is to wait for ZK to update to Spring 97+. It might not use Intel 965/963's "GSLS" (but Spring 97+ is quite slow, it might not even worth it to play at all)

Only for some people. Many get similar or better performance than 91.0 in 97. More testing needs to be done to find a pattern regarding who has what level of performance.

Thanks for the help GoogleFrog and TheSponge.

In that case, I'll ask my younger sibling to give his laptop a try on Zero-K. He plays Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. He'll probably like this game and his graphic card should work. I'll wait for the Spring 97+ update.

I dare not meddle with the drivers especially since I'm no tech-expert.

Although I haven't played the game yet, I really like how everything is going for Zero-K. I've been looking for a good RTS to play that's not Warcraft, Starcraft or C&C (although I love the older C&C games before EA killed it). Really love the community here and how active it is. The best thing I love about it is the sheer game customization and the collossal number of units (was reading the manual. Looks awesome)

Will be back here one day. Thanks for the help guys =) Appreciate it.

Pro tip: Dont use Intel R Hd video cards, like ever!, they heat up very fast and lag at most of the graphics design in the game. I used one and the only map i could have playid on was Icy run. Yeah thats why i tortured you guys with that map, i wanted to play so badly that i even used a Intel R Hd card for it.

Trying bigger maps with Intel R HD will result in extreme lag, and in the end after units grow in numbers in that game you will see that you have to catch up with the game.

True, if anyone want to play with Intel HD graphic then TURN OFF ALL GRAPHIC setting.

Set to "minimal" then press "Custom Detail" button and read every single setting and make it more lower than "minimal", then go to ingame menu and find any graphic option and TURN OFF ALL (especially LUPS: Lua Particle System).

Its the absolute cheap way to play the game. Its lucky there's soo many setting to turn OFF.
