A concept for a vehicle on which players can create a nearly unlimited number of defense or offense combinations... The roof of the vehicle contains 55 buildable tiles. These tiles can be built upon in the same way players can build on the ground, with the exception of terraforming. The unit would be available via the Strider Hub. Build cost and HP of the unit could be used to maintain balance. If the unit dies, it's attachments also die.

I love the concept, though I think the reality would be late game porcwagons that would make actual units obsolete. Mobile tactical silo. Mobile Cerb. Mobile anti that could follow a funnel for protection. Mobile bertha. Mobile DRP? While I imagine you've picked your build tile area carefully to rule out those egregious options, even a Stinger wagon, or, dare I speak its name, a Faraday wagon would surely be a plague on all our battlefields, most especially backed by funnel.

love the concept. remember me on C&C the transporter from China. This is the same, you can use units in the transporter and the units fire from the transporter to the enemy. GoogleFrog chanche zero-k momently extreme, so he can integrate this cool unit. Remove the shit nerfed Determind and place this car on the strider hub.

I imagine the coding would be a bit difficult for this unit. There will definitely be issues with the concept to work out, but by excluding certain build items or altering the build grid it might be possible to arrive at a vehicle that is both balanced and loads of fun to customize. Perhaps it could be an experimental unit available in non auto-host lobbies for now. That be a great way to test feasibility.

I have always found the idea of an RTS in which you can customize your units interesting, and this unit concept is certainly really cool. However, I think it would integrate poorly into current Zero-K. If nothing else, it might cause the late game to revolve entirely around these cars, with everything else becoming support. That, or the cars would be too expensive to be useful. It could make a really fun mod though.

I don't like the idea of building power generators on the unit. What about this instead: these high cost buildings that need power incumber the wagon when on it. An encumbered wagon has a movement penalty, and can "transfom/morph/set up" to allow the heavy structures to fire. A "set up" wagon would have 0 mobility.

No matter the gameplay implications, this is the kind of insane rad stuff that makes me happy.

This would be a really nice concept for a ship. A proper aircraft carrier, for one thing. Sea already has a mobile silo and a mobile cerb, for another. Gives an elegant option to limit it to things that can be built on/in water for the third - fixing most egregious nonsense like cloakable mobile anti.

Good idea. I had though about requiring the units to be within the limits of an energy pylon with sufficient power for it's mounted weapons to be able to use them.

Building power generators on the unit is a cool concept, I think. Mobile econ! If the unit's grid is isolated from the team's grid, this also limits any OPness since you can't use for overdrive, and it naturally limits your capacity to put big guns in the unit, since you have to waste precious space and 2000 metal just to power it up. (Although given that its not that hard to keep fusions safe currently, mobile linkable fusions might not be OP if you're paying at least 1000 or so for the base) Would factories be usable? A mobile factory unit could be fun. A sea version of this would also be cool, but would likely make a lot of the bigger sea units obsolete (which to be fair are rarely used anyways).

I don't know if this is the most genius idea I've seen in a while, or the most laughable. Give players the ability to create the ultimate trollwagon/trollmobile. Can you imagine 4 DDMs on one of those with a pylon followed by one with fusions? Or hell, just put a singu on one and drive it cloaked into the enemy base. Might not make cost, but some one is going to do it for shits and giggles. I guess this completely solves the complaints of zero-k being too porcy, now even porc is offensive.

This is the next best thing to having a Train Factory in Zero K

Basically Trollcom V2 :P Also for an idea that is easier to code maybe a strider that can be upgraded with any commander modules but has a level limit of 4 so that is can only get six total modules but has much higher base health than a com.

Cool idea. Once the unit interacts with terrain you'll quickly realise that it should be a spider instead. The grid sounds problematic, but it could always have its own personal grid (basically acting as a space and explosiveness tax for heavy turrets).

I figured the difficulty of moving this on certain terrain would help to nerf it. Whoever builds it would have to take that into consideration and perhaps terraform if possible. The vehicle may not be practical in it's current form but I would absolutely love to see a unit with a similar buildable feature on Zero-K.

Its already a crazy unit, might as well give it a roller that flattens terrain/enemies.
