starlight lost to zenith. somehow starlight failed to crack terraform within a reasonable timeframe. is this intended?

Zenith might be strong, situationally. If we burried that Zenith deep down in some terrain, built a wall and put some gausses on top of it, it would take SL a lot of time to cut through. Zenith's good terra is now what makes it currently strong.
Btw since all superweapons are now able to terra down terrain even if there are structures on top of it, perhaps it would be good if one was able to raise terrain that has already a structure on top of it with a constructor. It could be like three times more expensive than normal terraforming, but building a wall with razors on top of them, having them all get lowered down with a SL and not being able to raise the wall again after the enemy SL was destroyed (without removing all structures on top of it first) is kinda annoying.

The interaction of the Starlight and the Zenith looked decent to me.
  • The Starlight was completed and powered 50 seconds after the Zenith.
  • The Zenith spent the time charging as I think the Starlight was scouted?
  • The Starlight was unpowered by Zenith meteors on two occasions. This now causes the Starlight to fall and slowly reset its aim.
  • A lot more metal was put into hardening the Zenith. The terrain in front of it was massive and helped by the big blocks on this map. It was burried deeper. More shields were produced.
  • It took many minutes for the Zenith to actually kill the Starlight. There were only a few shields in the way. I liked the general pace of how it played out.
  • Even with all the disruption, the Starlight almost won.

I'm not saying the balance is final, but this game seemed broadly ok. Maybe superweapons could be bunched closer in price, maybe Zenith gathers slightly too rapidly, maybe it could lose a bit of smoothing. These things could happen eventually.

One big thing to note is that Starlight doesn't actually move structures. The terrain puncher beam is blocked by any structure on top. It is this way for a few reasons:
  • Starlight is conceptually the superweapon of scouting. It needs to know where the targets are to be effective. Scouting the structures on top of terraform in order to shoot them was sort of meant to tie in with this.
  • Moving structures looks pretty silly since Starlight moves them so fast that the structure would phase right through the beam, often taking no damage.
  • I'm not sure about this, but the Starlight terraform beam may have been developed before structure smoothing.
These reasons aren't great, so perhaps with Zenith gaining smooth it's worth doing it to Starlight.

It's also worth noting that Zenith has quite poor DPS, so shields can be pretty effective.

Don't forget that Starlight can outrange Zenith, it makes a huge difference.

amusing seeing new supers in duels

The normal laser uses cratering, only the craterpunch uses smoothing.
