That was the weirdest randomly generated map, those lava lakes in the middle created two very narrow bottlenecks.
Also, if any team built a Starlight instead of a DRP, the game would end much sooner. Lke 30 % of the game was just those two DRPs staring and shooting at each other unable to kill the enemy DRP. It's crazy how horribly weak DRP has become, it didn't feel that way like a year ago. Also, what didn't help was that the players had the DRPs set at high trajectory, DRP is then very inaccurate, and its dps is not enough to deal with all the shields.
Regarding the new late game meta, I think that now players realize much sooner and much more often that the best way to defeat the enemy is to rush a superweapon, and it often happens simultaneously on both sides. So, it very often is a superweapon against a superweapon fight, and in that regard, a Starlight just outclasses all other superweapons (range helps, but that dps and precision is much better).
West won mainly because of all those singus in the corner, they survived much longer than I thought they would.

IME limequat does tend to create narrow chokepointy maps rather often. This was dwarf-fortress level of extreme, but it was not unthinkable.

They were never targeted, we wasted most of our DRP DPS banging against shields
