reinstall while keeping configs

Since apparently someone broke update compatibility (apparently because of Windows antiviruses even though I'm using the Linux version), I have to reinstall the game. Is there a way to import the config changes I've made to the new installation?

Edit: Nevermind. The game still doesn't work after trying to reinstall. It's not due to antiviruses either. The errors are still the same, I'm linking them if anyone cares. Looks like a problem with encryption certificates. https://controlc.com/289cac14

You can back up the config files with the settings and then copy them back in after reinstall. Iirc LuaUI/Configs is the directory that you need to copy.

If you already reinstalled and overwrote this idk what you can do.

Actually, those two were broken at separate times. The self-update for Zero-K.exe hasn't worked for me on Linux for a while. All you need to do to fix that is keep downloading and replacing Zero-K.exe from Itch.io. The inability to update due to certificate problems is a different animal. I just fails to connect and download. Now both of the these update paths are broken.

If this had happened pre-Steam, it would have mattered a lot more to the people in charge because nobody would have been able to update. Nowadays, the answer to everything is Steam. Which leaves people who don't want to use it in the dust. Or at least it leaves us a very low-priority, easier to forget and get rid of than to make a fix for minority. Very sad.

Leaving two of the three downloads broken does not send good signals, and the focus on Steam is in my opinion misguided for two reasons:

- there's already a TA-style, Spring-based free RTS on Steam that looks better (something that rarely guided my decisions to try a game, but I guess it is not the same for the average Steam user)

- it doesn't seem to me that ZK gained that much players thanks to Steam (maybe 3X "only" considered the vast userbase of Steam). I don't think ZK can afford to ignore potential new players.

It's also not a good time to leave this as is. Yet another TA-style, Spring-based free RTS is currently in alpha but already looks promising.

FWIW, I might lose patience and just switch to it. To me, the fact that they cannot fix the issue quickly (not to mention that we had just 2 responses and then silence - are they also Discord-only?) is sending bad signals about the code base and/or the dev team.

The problem here I expect is that something is attempting to connect to a thing at springrts.com which is either unmaintained or changed.

We depend on old spring for parts of our infrastructure including download and version detection (rapid system).
We should replace it with our own copy of the system to fix these issues.

please test the version from here https://test.zero-k.info/lobby/zero-k.exe

(it will only DL test version of ZK but if it works fine we will push changes to stable version)

Tested the test version:
Tried putting in into a separate folder and running it using mono:
(edit) https://pastebin.com/0QaiN0A7
Tried putting the .exe into my ZK folder and running it:
https://pastebin.com/XfuBqKXW

Yeah, it doesn't work. What does the auto-updater even update? I'm sure the lobby can update Zero-k game to the correct version.

By the way, on https://test.zero-k.info/lobby/zero-k.exe my browser returns:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to test.zero-k.info. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I had to use http://test.zero-k.info/lobby/zero-k.exe . Looks like we have more certificate problems.

Works in a very strange way for me. Connects and downloads, but then the news is from a year ago, on the profile tab I'm more than 20 levels lower than I am in reality, there's nobody in the chat. Needs more work.

Please fix the portable version of Zero-K to get rid of that pesky "zkmenu:stable" menu error.
Thank you!

Yes, I noticed those things too (except I saw Psaniac and got chat messages from people who wasn't supposed to be there) but didn't mention them because it is a "test version", so I thought it might take its info on some backup server with outdated data that was sampled a year ago from the live server. I'm not too worried about that. What matters is that it does fix the download issue.

Yeah the weirdness seems to be due to the fact that it's a test server.

So, now that the game has been fixed, is anyone from the main dev team going to push the fix the main version?
