I would like to study how it was done, as example.

Maybe... what if jumping unit can be pushed by newton? would be cool!

by pointless i mean probably purposefully pointless

as in troll

as in not really being rude, or i woulda been using those swearwords

Why wasn't this impulse jump being use now?

I'm not part of core dev tho, I don't know how much work has been done soo far. I felt like want to contribute some time, that's all.

Where could I see this code, I really like to try it :D
*in the mean time I'm going to learn about Newton abit :)

Where did anyone say that this existed?

Fred I'm pretty sure xponen is talking about newtons affecting units while they are in the middle of a jump. Last time I checked (admittedly a while ago), they don't.
you know this
you been ere '20months'
your response is pointless
:P

xponen, gadget is here: http://code.google.com/p/zero-k/source/browse/trunk/mods/zk/LuaRules/Gadgets/unit_jumpjets.lua

lol

k thanks. Seems like everything is in there, can test stuff right away. Thanks

but...almost any unit can be pushed by newton.
to shove or pull your own, for example, set it to fire at the spot your unit is on.
(tip: helps bombs move faster, but takes a bit to setup and is prone to destroying your base. but still fun! :D )

I found out that calculating trajectory is really hard problem*. It was said that US military took 4 years to create projectile table for their guns during WW2 (and it is the reason computer was created).

It has been 60 years, maybe there's better solution. Will keep looking.

*its easy to launch a com to space, but it doesn't make sense at all to user's interface...

units that jump with impulse, you can only mean one thing!

lol

Erm... does anyone know what "impulse" exact meaning? I mean, how much speed does 1 impulse add to a unit?

Either:
1. Test yourself
or
2. Read from engine source code

ok, 1 impulse/second ADD 1 unit of speed/second to a unit.

If called only once every 30 frame (1 second), you must divide the value of impulse by 30. *this sounds like some hardcore physic here IMO*
---

awesome it work. I can shoot com into air and it tumble (wow!), and you can even accelerate the com with Newton while it jump! -work like MoveCtrl but even better & felt more real; if you jump in one place it will goes higher! :D

Currently it damage com while landing and sometimes explode when landing. This is soo cool, will add more impulse (like braking).

Good thing about this is Newton now work universally, and there's possibility of using jumpjet to realistically brake in midair for scuttle launch, jumpjet can also be used to boost forward rather than upward (use same trajectory, but still need to think of UI).

*the ballistic prediction formula also work. Can jump to target now.

Pretty cool.
If this would be implemented into the game I guess all sorts of hilarity would ensue. :P Newtons actually pushing away Jack. Units hit midair would miss their target location. Units bouncing on each other in the air.

Jumping multiple units to the same spot would fail even harder than currently, otherwise what xponen is on to here is fantastic.

I'd fucking love seeing units jump and collide with the enemy ground units.
