He said his English is not very good. That's okay. You can figure out the rest.

Tommyso: It's great that you're working on your own music for Zero-K. I'm looking forward to hearing it when you have made more progress. Please keep us informed. :)

I think the interpretation "Hi, I want to contribute some music. I'll keep you posted." is plausible as well.

EDIT: I can't find the thread where somebody said Denny objected, so I have no idea how he feels about ZK and his music.

Considering that denny schneidemesser has said he doesn't like his music being used in this way, it'd be nice to see music in ZK from an author that enjoys its inclusion.

Denny released his music under CC-BY-NC-ND, the most restrictive CC license - I think it's fair to say his intent was that people copy his music around freely but primarily enjoy it on its own and not attached to a video game.

Particularly since ZK does offer products in return for money (even if it's minimal cosmetic items and barely covers server costs) it could be argued that this is breaking the spirit of NC.

Where did he say that?

I'm sorry, I'm repeating that like 4th hand from a previous thread... and now on googling I can't find the previous thread. My bad.

To clarify, I have trouble understanding this line. I'm not sure why, but I think the "study" part is confusing me the most. Any help?

Pxtl: I think you're thinking of this very silly thread where a very silly person said:

quote:
Denny Schneidemesser has told me that his music, just because it can be downloaded doesn't mean that you automatically have a license to use his work. He told me that he doesn't know about any GPL and that all his Creative Commons licensed work serve under a non-commercial clause.

Or, as he put it in an earlier version of that post which he later edited:

quote:
I've contacted the author and my 'fears' are true. The author doesn't even know about this game!

Either of those statements could have left you with the impression that Denny doesn't approve of us using his music. But that's not actually what he said.

It was a stupid thread-hijack by a stupid person to make a stupid point, stupidly.

Ah. Apparently I am contaminated by silly. I am silly by proxy. My bad.

I've contacted Denny before with no response, but we are using his music under the CC-BY-NC-ND licence he specified here:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_licensing.cfm?bandID=604509

Any more effort to make music is welcome though obviously we can only use it if it is of high enough quality.

Does ZK break the spirit of NC if there's no profit involved?

when i was young and had time i made some electronic music too. can add to the project under any required license if wanted. a few are really cool. let me dig for the tracks when im home. made rank 7 on mp3.de with one track for 2 weeks or so! im so proud!

however, most of them will not fit i guess, and are not comparable to denny's awesome orchestral epic awesome orchestral awesome epic soundtrack which is awesome on an epic scale.

We're non commercial, we give away Zero-K for free.

It's good to have any music around incase any legal troubles do arrive, possibly even alternate soundtracks.

@saktoth
here, i deliver:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23979348/spring_static/musik_released/capmo.7z

same license as zk says on dev page (gpl 2)

however, see for yourself if the music style fits to the game (i beleve most of them not, also the craftwork is more or less poor as i lack the knowledge of final mixup ;) )

Argh, 128 kbp/s... Definitely catchy stuff though, will listen through them all :)

The thing about Denny's current tracks for ZK is that most of them have a common theme (the marimbaphone thing at beginning and end of most tracks). It's something that i appreciate about the soundtrack.

DErankAdminmojjj, what software did you use in creating those tracks? Just curious.

Edit: But listening through them, some tracks definitely have a lot in common...

jep. 128kbps sucks ;) will see if i can get the environment back online (difficult) and at least export some of them to 320kbps, if you name what would be worth it.

programs: propellerhead reason 2.0/2.5 i think, for wave edit magix samplitude v7 or so ? 200X to 2004
