Planetwars is now online for testing, with plans to run a full round within the next two months. We encourage you to join a faction and conquer some planets, with the caveat that this is just a testing round. Bugs and unexpected changes are likely and we do not intend to run a full round.

An explanation of what Planetwars is and how it works can be found on the wiki, here.

That wiki link is old. A better explanation is approximately in this area: https://zero-k.info/mediawiki/index.php?title=Manual#Planetwars

If you are familiar with PW couple things were changed:
-
You can now "rush" structure activation with metal (meaning you can pay for much faster activation of destroyed buildings etc)
-
Diplomatic treaties have "guarantees". Each side can enter how much they guarantee the treaty in metal. This metal is taken from their reserves and serves as an insurance. Any treaty can be cancelled at any time, but the side that cancels the treaty loses this insurance guarantee and the other side gets it.
-
We have removed some overkill structures like planetbusters and link creators
Also:
-
anything can explode at any time, also because we need to test these things (this is not a new feature)

Yggdrasil had some fucked up starting boxes, also the HQ spawns are erratic as always

Does it still hold that you can spend all your meta-game resources to prepare an attack and then some random guy will hop in and take your slot in the battle? With more players this will definitely happen and it renders the meta-game much less effective.

This page in the new wiki is probably the best starting point to learn about Planetwars, and I've made it even better now. Everyone please feel free to improve these pages further to make them more informative to new players.

The level of testing includes the following effects:
-
Some games will be played with test accounts to test various ingame features such as structure, briefing and evacuation.
-
Free metal has been given to each faction. Other free stuff may be sent in the future to test it.
-
Test accounts have been hacked into leadership roles.
-
Some strategically-poor treaties have been set up to test the some niche treaty effects. Expect more of these treaties in the future.
Also the wiki is mostly incorrect. I need to test mechanics to figure out what is actually implemented.

Looks like you cant view leadership elections in any way once you vote for them.

Ok, give a link to that page from the user page and the faction page. Otherwise it looks like the leadership election disapeared and bugged out.

Maybe leadership elections should be done differently. Instead of waiting way too long, just make people sign up for the positions and give the guy who gets the most yes votes the position instantly. The other candidates will stay there and if any of them gets more yes votes they will get the position.

Well, that was fun. Congrats Dynasty. What are "Attack points" and how are they calculated? Also, how do you become the governor of a planet?

Would it be worth listing defence points too?

But I didn't actually get to test anything :( Well, maybe one thing. My testing has revealed that artifact victory is boring and OP.
