Hunter vs scallop spam

Just suggesting, as scallop balls grow bigger, with their superior range they can skirmish with hunters VERY effectively. Sea has no real counter to scallop spam, but scallops have a tendency to clump. So, I have two suggestions:
A: Make hunter have more AOE. Right now its splash is very small, which makes it a shitty riot at best. Also make it more expensive to compensate.
or B: Make scallops shoot kinda like rockos - so that they can not shoot through one another, thus making scallop balls scale a bit worse than their natural counter.
or C: Turn hunter into skirm, give it more range, reload time and damage. Who cares it will suck vs ducks, it already does suck vs them.
or D: Make skeeters suicide units. I mean disarm is sweet but almost never used in real games. Make them suicide and it will be SOoo much fun=)

Hunters have less range. Skasi, the hover thing works but it implies facswitch. Plus if you have like 10-15 scallops, it actually can not get close enough to fire.

+ , provided the enemy doesn't micro. I once suggested amphib Roaches...

+ is actually pretty good against Scallops.

But yeah, it requires 2 non-water factories so not that viable in 1v1 or small teamgames.

SErank[Er0]Godde, Skasi, thank you for your ideas, but imagine you are playing sea in a team game, and you are pushing your enemy who is playing, say, amph. Now suddenly you have a bunch of enemy scallops that have been accumulating in the back dropping on you, what do you do? Half of your units do not even shoot underwater, and the other half dies to scallop spam. Facswitch is sweet but it takes time and metal to get done, meanwhile scallop will rape your ships. Alternatives?

Urchins, more urchins

Also: terraformed Urchins. A few of those will really slow down the Scallop push.

Sniper subs can kite Scallops without trouble.

Scallops are really slow so losing a large part of your fleet to them mostly has to be blamed on yourself... and the lack of cheap sonar.

If you just avoid taking too many losses you can just retreat and regroup with your team and then overrun them with Snakes, Daggers and Ducks.

Daggers are pretty devastating vs Scallops in water from what i've seen. They are fast enough and travel over Scallops when shooting, causing scallop projectiles to fire at a very bad angle.

It's a 9v9. You could've easily combined ALL the suggestions that were brought up in this thread: Claymores, Halberds, Valk+Roach, Dagger-, Duck- and Snake spam, Serpents, Urchins, terraformed Urchins.

Furthermore: Ravens

If you want to use something a bit more cheesy instead: Thunderbird (depending on how deep water is - aoe goes through water), terraformed Snake/Serpent, or create an underwater wall to block all amphib movement.

In that game, that was an absurdly large ball of scallops.

Large balls of Hunters, Serpents, and Claymores were never even touched as counters to that ball. Any of those, especially combined with those fanastic stilletos could win if used properly.

Large balls of snakes die like bithes since they have no HP to tank scallops. Hunters with sonar are somewhat ok but require ridiculous micro to beat scallops. How is that fair that a dedicated anti-submerged unit such as hunter SUCKS vs all-over useful amph unit? Just does not make sense... And still the only counter ship-based suggested is snipersub, which is outrageously sluggish. USrankRyMarq, what would I build an absurdly large ball of if I'm ships to beat scallops?

dedicated anti-submerged unit

Type mismatch.

1) Can hit surface units, not only submerged ones -> is not dedicated.
2) Is not anti-submerged inasmuch as anti-fragile. It pwns dux and snakes (for cost), but scallops aren't fragile.

Hunter is not a counter to Scallop, i would say.

If only buoys could fire underwater only when submerged.. How awesome would that be to finally be free of scallOP ball vs scallOP ball?
