I played a few sea maps and i noticed sniper subs cannot be effectively countered by any other unit in sea factory. Torpedo boats are dead before they even reach the sniper subs even if you make alot of them. They get 2 shotted...Snakes are even worse counter to them.

I had alot of games where it was just serpent wars...2k metal and it 1 hits other subs and 2-3 hits most other ships from long range with very good accuracy. It even tracks moving targets...

So far the only real counter i saw are prec bombers but thats a diferent factory.

You'll notice that the sniper sub does not have nearly enough sonar or visual range to hit its target. It must be supported in order to be effective, either with static sonar or other subs to spot. So, with equal cost torpedo-armed units, you can get close and kill it with it only firing one shot.

I'd like to see the game though.

He used static sonar and just killed me outside of my los. I tried to kill them with torp boats but the sniper subs just kill them before they even reach them. 5 torp boats fired like 2-3 shots at the 2 sniper subs before they died. When i changed to air fac i killed his sniper subs with bombers and killed the guy. But that still means that you have to change factory to counter 1 unit.

I think sniper subs should be like artilery. Very effective vs static but not that good vs mobiles (atm it pretty much got 100% accuracy against moving). Maybe remove the tracking on the torpedo and give it some inacuracy while buffing his range a bit?

Dunno what game i noticed this but it happens quite often that you get pwned by sniper sub spam unless you change factory.

Try to count 2 sniper subs

4k metal, 5 torp boats

much much much less.
Conclusion you did something very wrong to allow enemy to build 2 of these.

Last time I built them I do remember being surprised at how much hp they have for an 'artillery' unit.

2k is a pretty large investment though for 1 unit, that is around gollie/sumo range. A factory is only 500 so a tech switch is a pretty reasonable way to counter. Hovers would have done well too as torpedoes can't hit hovers.

Also, another thing to consider is that that torp boats have terrible hp for cost. You can improve their performance dramatically by sticking them behind vettes. The vettes tank the damage and the torp boats can shoot from behind.

That is, lots of hp considering it is invulnerable to most weapons in the first place.

Idk, I cba to go look up stats but if some compelling data is presented I will probably be inclined to agree.

He killed everything i make without any losses thats why...

And torp boats should counter subs. 5 torp boats = 2250 metal. Dunno but if you make 2250 metal to counter 4000 metal you should win. This works fine against snakes but against serpents it doesnt.

No it doesnt. You need more metal to beat them in same units...Thats not countering thats having more eco. Countering means you make a unit that cost alot less and beats them effectivly.

Countering is like raiders killing artilery, riots killing raiders, or skirmishers killing riots. However, there is no good way to counter the sniper sub. Almost anything you'd make to counter them is overly costly and takes quite a few to kill one sub.

Sea is all about the hardcounters created by the added distinct submarine domain. You cannot do sea with 1 factory when there are 4 available to you.

Spam some kind of hovercraft to scare away AA and prec bomb the subs.

(Sea doesn't have to be all about this but sak claimed he'd balance it an hasn't yet...)

Terraform and urchins also does the job. I think sea is always going to be balanced as sea + air + hovers, so I don't reckon it's a major problem.

I am surprised to hear that 5 torp boats wouldn't beat two sniper subs though - presumably the sniper subs were supported with other units in this instance?
