PW needs coding help.
We are busy fighting engine changes, trolls etc instead..

I hate PW for the clanstacks, although apparently normal games are clanstacked too so it doesn't really matter at this point!

Seriously, though, no PW. Not just for the bad teams but also for having to play the same maps over and over sometimes with really inappropriate player counts.

What need to be done?:
* look at the issues to PW and read the comments ( http://code.google.com/p/zero-k/issues/list?q=label%3APlanetwars )

Change some stuff and use pastebin for your diff ( http://pastebin.com/ )

Now you can post your link to your pastebin in Forum->PlanetWars or Forum->Developement.

Or you can ask some devs for commiter rights.

Based on the recent discussions among the developers, it seems like PW needs design help, not coding help. The decision to end the last round and not start a new one appears to be based on the developers not liking how PW works rather than any issues with the code.

Or maybe it doesn't need design help... just a decision by whoever runs the server as to what the design should be, so that someone who wants to offer coding help has something to code to.

Why not you have unstable one running that is updated every hour and tell players that the round is just there to be there, and to expect fatal bugs everywhere and no dramatic gameplay thanks to hourly updates and high numbers of bugs.

At least they will be able to comment on changes, and give suggestions, given that they know it is not stable PW release.

PW needed rework because it was too easy for it to be unwinnable. As soon as one faction started winning, the other 4 would stop it, and the cycle repeated.

We should not be forced to wait 1 day for 1 turn - some turns should pass whatever else happens.

Give people bonuses for controlling more of galaxy? That way everyone will want to take away small factions' land to get bonuses, rather than using them to take out large faction? Also adds realism.

I think technology should be more elaborate. Like for specialized research facility with high price and upkeep. You pay to do research and then have to store it in database built and run by your money, you can get better mexes, longer range, etc from various research. It also has PW struct upgrade research, like better mines. If database is destroyed, technology is lost and must be paid for again in research lab. If it is captured (maybe by cons reclaiming it ingame, or bought, give suggestions), then all the upgrades in database he has that you don't are transferred to you, and maybe also let them have a few turns to research other upgrades he has at lower price because you might be able to use database to hack into other ones? Each research is player only, unless player spends more money to make it public to his faction. Other factions can also try to break into databases? This can scale forever? Also, it gives incentive for players to take planets rather than helping other factions so they get money for research?

Whenever a faction loses all its planets, its gone, and the players are, maybe taken in as slaves and give money bonus to whoever owns them and the players can only first person units and owner can detonate them with click if they try to kill own stuff? This will inspire players to eliminate factions as quickly as possible so no help weakest, just get the weakest out of my sight so I get their tech, PW money, and IP and they stop bothering me?

Pw problem was the other way around, it was too easy to win with little headstart.
