(a response triggered by this thread: https://zero-k.info/Forum/Post/267119#267119 )

First of all: I'm only a martyr if I was struck when I was doing good. As a rule of thumb, I assume that nobody believes me, and everybody knows what's happening regardless, and this should be a rule of thumb for all. Whether I'm acting as a martyr, or whether I'm not acting as a martyr, should be irrelevant.

Second of all: "A history of spamming pointless threads" is an exaggeration. Most of the less meaningful threads, I post in the off-topic or even asyulum if it's crazy enough. A "history" implies that a person has made the mistake more than 10 times consistently. If somebody believes that I post meaningless threads, sure, direct the question to me personally, maybe separate from the question.

Third of all: I'm not going to pretend to be smart by making my threads longer than they have to be. Not everyone has the time to express themselves in the length of this thread with this amount of posts. Making my threads unnecessarily long and poetic, just to be seen as a respectable member of society, is not only dumb, but could potentially ruin any community, and that's with the benefit of the doubt.

Fourth of all: Thanks again, for treating my question seriously, even though so many people thought that I was joking.

Fifth of all: I am tired of high rank players being patreonized. I don't get to talk about this problem NEARLY enough! So many games are thought to be boring just because some players have the power strength equivalent of a speedrunner, which means they skip 99% of the game's mechanics. Especially in team games, high rank players often boast with their speedrunner-level strats, when even in other games, such as StarCrafts and the new mechabellium game and Team Fortress 2, people often speak about just how much more whimsical the casual play is. I don't want Zero-K to degrade into a professional game with a variety of mechanics that is not meant for a professional level. I will need to talk about this one day or another, in far greater detail, on the account of myself, on the account of everyone else, even if just to get this conversation going, even if just to remind people that 1% isn't 100%.

Sixth of all: I do act as a martyr. It's the only way I can lose the fear of death and speak in the first place, since it feels like any step I take will lead me to downfall, and I never knew which step it would be. Assuming that my every step will be my downfall helps me to keep moving, since I know that even if I fail, even if people dare me to fail, I'll keep on moving. I only act as a martyr when I feel threatened, but it is the only way I can speak what I think, without becoming insincere or dull or boring or lame.

Seventh of all: I suspect that the reason why people fire at me to begin with is because of envy. I often think to myself, that when I say something, and people take it with offense, it's not just me but it's something that people before me have faced. I feel like when others have given up on being fun and cheerful and sincere, I keep on moving. And the reason why people are upset is... because they feel like they can never handle what I could handle, but they want to be in my place. Because of this, no person in my place would ever truly get destroyed, but that is a dangerous thought, and I still assume that every day, the answer is "yes, I will get destroyed, so I'll keep on being a fun actor until I'm no longer here." While it's true that anyone could take my place, only I feel useless and meaningless enough to make wild takes without the fear of getting judged, because I don't mind getting banned. Now, some people might say, "HE'S TRYING TO GET BANNED! HE'S A TROLL!" So, I have to clarify that I don't mind getting banned for a bad reason. If I give a good reason to get banned, of course I'll try to negotiate, that's no way to go down. It's just that many people fear a bad judge, a crooked judge. I don't want people to fear, even if it costs me my life. And if it won't cost me my life? That's still a good outcome, since if that is the case, anyone can be fearless without fearing for their life, and I am not necessary.

The true wisdom comes from seeing how every outcome is a good outcome, and to keep on going.

I was thinking about making a group. Coming to the problem of "speedrunner strats" used to dominate new players, and make casual play irrelevant, "Card sharks" as I'm planning to call them, I thought to make a group that acknowledges the issue and tries to preserve the experience of newer players, away from speedrunner strats and closer to casual exploration. If people truly think that I'm a troll, I'm fine if someone else makes the group and runs it better than me. If people think that it's okay if I become the leader of the group, I'll... delay the group creation for a few more days. I planned to make it today, but I made this long vent instead. This... is probably the only important mention in this whole thread.

Feel free to comment. I made sure to destroy my heart just to take the worst, so don't be afraid to tell me how much I suck. Otherwise, I'll never improve: The reason why I made this vent, to begin with, is because someone brought to light what I was doing. I believe these "vent" responses are a lot healthier than prompting people to get banned, anyway.

... You made a pretty confusing post, people downvoted it because the most plausible thing you could be meaning (speccheating is a-ok, the rule against it is annoying) is just a detriment to the game.

And this is what spawned from it?

1. martyr is a pretty heafty word for an online forum. Nobody is in any serious hurt or danger, dust off, make better posts.

2. There is definetly a history, intentionally or not youve more or less setup many threads of self answering questions that go nowhere, or of conversations only you take part in.

3. It's not necessarily about being smart, its about being comprehensible and not a running a monologue. Also try building on the shared experience of playing the game, looking at a good chunk of your recent threads they are barely adjacent to the game thats being played.

4. I appreciate those who managed to gleam what you actually meant. Take Googlefrogs advice, and there won't be an accidental negative reaction.

5. The only thing that really falls off in higher level play are expensive buildings (desolator and up), the rest do find good usage. There is decent whimsical play to be had, though your margin for error is much smaller. And lobpot is not going anywhere, I recently won a lobpot while just making glaives, ulti, and cloaked snitch.

6. Stop playing a martyr. There is nobody else you are taking the fall for.

7. The reason why people "fired" against you, beside the confusing thread title, was because you were starting to get annoying to a degree that couldn't be ignored. Envy has nothing to do with that.
This section becomes a little hard to understand and pretty dramatic.
But in short, nobody is looking for you to get banned, but for you to improve your posting habits.
Nothing more, nothing less.

A tip I could give would be to ask those higher level players for interesting ways to use units, they likely have interesting stories or strategies for every single unit, that would be effective at your skilllevel.

I'm actually going to go the other way.

I think your suggestions are, dare I say it, nice. They're nice in a "this is an interesting thought exercise" kind of way.

That being said, there are usually one of, or both two things people want out of forum posts: start a discussion, gain recognition.

If you just want to be admired then nobody has any control over what others will think of what you post. All you can do is put it out there and see how people reply. That being said, you can be recognized for in game skills or just overall knowledge, but generally, respect will come out of what you manage to acheive. If you're still new and you already want to be admired, well, from whom? People who have been doing this longer than you and are better than you? Tough call.

I'm going to be good faith and assume that you genuinely think your ideas are good and you want others to discuss them, regardless of if they admire you or not.

Let's use your spectator cheating post as an example. We're not in your head. How were we supposed to know you meant to use it the way you indended? Reading your original post, how many possible interpretations do you think varying levels of experienced players could have?

Before you ask a question like that, it helps to stop and ask yourself what other information can I add so the people who respond have the proper context? Well, it turns out there already is a game mechanic that does what you suggested, and it's called handicap. If two players of uneven skills are matched, handicap will either bring the better player down or lift the lower player up in an attempt to narrow the skill difference.

We have such a mechanic in this game, and it provides an eco boost to the lower skilled player.

With that context in hand, a better way of phrasing your question would be: What if instead of eco, the handicap mechanic provided more vision to the lower skilled player? How? Here are different suggestions:

1 - A button with a 5 minute cooldown that reveals the entire map
2 - All units and buildings have double the vision
3 - The lower ranked player has access to a specific radar that, once built, reveals a very large portion of the map
4 - Spectators can freely reveal information to the lower ranked player

See? This is much easier to engage with. There is now a well defined, specific topic with specific suggestions. People can compliment or object to some, most or all of it while providing specific counter arguments.

Which brings me to another thing that helps. What I am about to suggest, has it been tried before? In this game? In another game? Can I used that as comparison?

I think you're creative, but you're communicating it very badly. If you can fix your posts in such a way that someone who isn't in your head has a chance to see your idea the same way you do, you might not get the approval you seek but you won't gear nearly as much downvotes and meme replies.

Good post Galamesh.

Being precise with what kind of answer you want, or prompting for them would help transform your monologue posts into conversations.

Take the zk lore rewritten thread, youve kind of just put all your thoughts out there, but that's not a good ground for conversation. Its a big ask to wade through those walls of text.
It would be better if you gauged and grew interest toward the ideas and bounced them off people to refine them or maybe discover new avenues of exploration you hadn't thought of yet.
Take Locusts for example.
Off the top of my head, locusts could have been meant to make use of puppies goo ability, but due to timeconstraints was only left with regen. I'd say thats a decently interesting idea, thats in line with locusts theme.

There are threads that shouldn't be linked on ZK's main menu

okay, I cooled down from yesterday. I'm going to continue the drama here by saying that I made a mistake. Yeah, people asked me a genuine question the first 3 times, and yeah, I blew off. Yeah, I was in the wrong to think that everyone is against me. I could reason way more as to why I blew of, I certainly have a lot of underlying issues and reasons for my behavior, and even with them, I was in the wrong, and I made a mistake.

However, if there is no issue, there is no issue. And if there is no issue once, there is no issue twice. If there was no issue for me to be triggered before, but I was triggered, I won't be triggered in the future. Since nothing bad happened from that moment, and since I moved all the horrors of that place in here, yeah, it's okay.

As for threads that shouldn't be linked to the main Zero-K page, I agree. I'd rather not see off-topic comments outside of off-topic, like I saw them before. Could be a fair change.

Furthermore:
If I can ask high level players for advice, cool. Good to know. It wasn't easy asking for advice, and neither did I try, but I'll be more curious in the future.

I... should have calmly explained the point of my question. I misjudged, I won't justify defensive hostility I showed.

In total, drama dragon has been slayed. Experience points gained. Leveled up. Please stop off-topic threads from showing up on the Zero-K main page.
