Zero-K 1v1 “Clip it” tournament March 1st! ($70 prizes)


With the other scheduled tournament being cancelled (unofficially) I’d like to announce a smaller one in its place! The “clip it” 1v1 tournament! Not only is great Zero-K skill rewarded but so is making the greatest play of the tournament as voted by the community! Be that a crazy comeback, some great execution with snitches, or glaive micro that gives the enemy nightmares.

Tournament starts 19:00 UTC March 1st 2025, please show up slightly earlier


Tournament structure:
It’ll be a double elimination tournament, each matchup best of 3. (The format might change depending on the number of sign-ups, removing the bo3)

Battle setup:
To find the maps to play on
Each player gets to ban 2 maps (starting with the player whose name comes first in the room name)
Then both choose one map, first map is match 1, second map is match 2.
Each player gets to ban 2 more maps
Last map is for match 3.

Map pool:

Some of these maps may seem weird for a 1v1 tournament, if there are concerns with them don't hesitate to give alternatives. I've chosen these to get a good variety of map types and give the opportunities for less than meta strats

Stream delay of 5 minutes minimum to dramatically reduce the effect of stream sniping (for myself and anyone else who wants to cast, if that's you please say so that I can link you here).


On tournament day:
Click the little "+" button above the chat in game lobby and type "zktourney" to join the tourney chat room. Being in this new chat will allow me to confirm you've showed up and you can report there once your matches finish which one of you won.
You will be forced into your respective match rooms when they are ready so you do not have to worry about that.
check this post for which maps you have to choose from and how.
Remember you have to be defeated twice to be eliminated, once you're out why not press the matchmaker button and get some matches with the others who got eliminated?

I’m also looking for someone who could help make the tournament run smoothly, I haven’t ran one before so foresee some issues with it :)

For the first one, imo if you must pick only one option go for changing the maps instead of a time limit, but in all honestly I don't have much of a strong opinion, either (or neither) would be fine with me. As for the second, no. The only way to practice that would be a custom 1v1 with modoptions, instead of just using the casual 1v1 room or the matchmaker.

IMO, each map in the map poll should be different, as in it's play-style/size/terrain type.

For that reason, I think Volcanic-Duel and Pinch-Point are both good maps to keep in the poll since they are very different by size and terrain from all the normal 1v1 maps like titan duel and Eye of Horus, so I would be interested in playing them.

I'll add a suggestion that maybe ternion should be changed for something else, since there's already a completely identical map to it (in play-style), which is hotstepper. Both small maps which look like the games on it will be 3 minutes long. As to why I think changing ternion is better than changing hotstepper, it's because hotstepper has that fun mechanic where lava rises and destroys all the low ground mex which looks cool to watch and play.

So to give some clarity and allow people to practice before the tournament: There will not be any changes to the rules/system!

For the maps: I like pinch point and volcanic duet because they indeed seem different. Ternion is just in because it's the very first map I ever cast a game on, not because it's a good map for the tourney.
