What is the best unit in the game and why is it grizzly?

Chonky skirmisher strong.

It is very strong to rush it in teams games. 5v5 and above, I'd say.
It has a huge healthpool to tank a lot of damage, and it usually pushes forward supported by a commander and some riots, meaning it won't die to raiders. It's high range means it kills most other skirmishers. You have to contest it with a lance or a couple of heavy units (two to three minotaurs).

if griz is best unit then anti griz is the best unit?

wtf is the cheaper anti griz unit?
needs to be easy.. nothing difficult like skuttles.. maybe snipers?

Well, if you can make 6 phantoms or 3 lances and keep them alive you could force the grizz user to spam different units... or go shields. Then you will need to use silo or even more artillery. Question is, how much more effective artillery is in comparison to grizzly shield comp?

Smokedragon, I kill grizzlies with like 8ish scorchers or 10-15 glaives all the time, pretty easy if its not defended

Huh. I'd only rate the Grizzly as a decent unit honestly.

It's too easily countered by a lance. 3 lances and I can one hit one - and only a cost of 3.3kish vs 2kish extremely easy to do, particularly in team games.

The lance is one of the best units in the game. :P

Grizzly is a strong unit admittedly, it's stats are pretty solid and because it's Demi-Strider Skirmisher that uses hitscan, it's fairly capable of fighting almost anything thrown at it, however it's also still needs support to keep it from being rushed down like regular Skirmishers but unlike them, it's also a big slow target to shoot.

It's lasers+movement also make it not that ideal on more bumpy terrain despite it's bot movement yet on flat terrain it faces the risk of Vehicle Assaults.

And while it's alot harder to kill with artillery then traditional skirmishers which is what makes it powerful, as mentioned before, it's big. Artillery in general doesn't have much trouble hitting it to wear it down and in general players are going to notice and focus it.

Is it maybe slightly overtuned? Perhaps, but it's hard to say. What I will say is that for as strong as Cyclops is often cited/made out to big. Grizzly seems more reliable and safe generally and I am not too sure if that is great for it's pricetag being 300 higher then Grizzly.

I dare not speak because that might make Grizzly nerfed.

I hope my silence doesn't speak too loudly.

Grizzly is the best unit in the game because it's too cheap for what it does, cheap enough to make as your first unit and rely on for the entire early game. It's expensive to keep Grizzlies away from your territory, and they have the good vision range to gather valuable frontline intel. But they also have the DPS to make good on that intel. It only takes a couple of them in your territory to shut down eco activity over a broad area until you've invested at least half a dozen Grizzlies' worth of metal in static defense or specific counter units. And even then, the Grizzlies don't need to walk into it, your prize is just being able to mex behind your defense in peace. Grizzlies might not be the strongest unit in a pitched brawl, but chasing them down is usually an exercise in futility because they can outrun almost anything they can't efficiently fight. And with basic anti-AoE micro Grizzlies eventually become effective at punishing heavy units like Cyclops, Scorpion, and, err, Grizzly, if those units don't have an escort capable of repelling a Grizzly assault.

I'd go so far as to say that Grizzlies carry the Cloakbot Factory in general, and that's why they're the best unit in the game.

Are you AUrankSmokeDragon Buckymancer, because I don't know what you are smoking right now...

Do I really need to explain the joke?

[Spoiler]

As far as my opinion on Grizzly itself, it's close to unbuildable. Trying to get my first Grizzly onto the field without securing permission from my opponents first is the most common way I lose fronts as land-amphbots, but having Grizzlies changes the lane dynamic enough that I'm often tempted into starting to build them anyway.

I think that a significant reason why Grizzly feels good is because Amph feels good. Scallop/Buoy/Bulkhead-based armies with Lobster/Limpet support frequently put me in a strong position on my lane, then Grizzly arrives to deliver the coup de grace.

Scallop and Buoy are not only strong, they also prompt the enemy to build an army that can engage from long range and is unlikely to want to dive you - which is, in most cases, exactly what Grizzly likes to fight.

Obvious exceptions here are Lance and Sniper, which are quite effective against both the cheaper Amph units and Grizzly. Handling Lance and Sniper is as much a tactical problem as it is an army-composition problem: most units can beat Lance/Sniper if they can engineer a favourable engagement. Finding a solution to this tactical problem is left as an exercise for the reader. (Lobster and/or area-cloakers should give you a good start.)

On some level this also applies to Grizzly. Plenty of units can beat Grizzly if they get a favourable engagement... but if the Grizzly gets to take a few shots then retreat and repair, or an attempt to dive the Grizzly runs into Scallops and Limpets, the fight is bad or catastrophic.

Compare to Ravager: I have heard some noise lately about people saying Ravager is overpowered, and I could imagine that in a vacuum Ravager is a better unit than Grizzly - but Rover does a much worse job of setting Ravager up to succeed IMO.

Griz is definitely good but I suspect part of what you're seeing is how good it looks from ahead (i.e. the Domi effect).

It has a lot of weaknesses. It's slow. It does poorly against massed skirms like ronin. Its highly vulnerable to artillery.

It's a good unit, and definitely king of the skirmishers (as you'd hope for a 1900 cost skirm) but I find it... Fine? Generally by the time you have one any form of 2000 metal escelation would do.

Sorry to abuse your name but I have never seen Buckymancer joke before so even though I saw that he described a raider, it tripped me up like he had a trip.
